Tokyo: Indian shooting woes continued at the Tokyo Olympics as Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary finished seventh in the 10m Air Pistol mixed event Qualification Stage 2 at the Asaka Shooting Range and failed to qualify for the final on Tuesday.

In the same event, another Indian pair Abhishek Verma and Yashaswini Singh Deswal failed to qualify for Qualification Stage 2 after finishing 17th in Stage 1 with 564 points. The top eight in Qualification Stage 1 qualify for the final while the top four from Stage 2 make it to the final round.

Meanwhile, it was also curtains for India in the 10m Air Rifle mixed team event as Divyansh Singh Panwar and Elavenil Valarivan, and Deepak Kumar and Anjum Moudgil finished 12th and 18th in Qualification Stage 1.

Finishing at the top with 582 points at Stage 1, it was expected from the Bhaker-Chaudhary duo to make it to the final round. But the Indian pair utterly failed, scoring a disappointing 380 to bow out of the competition.

The start wasn’t good enough for Bhaker in Stage 1 and it got worse in Stage 2 shooting a 92 in her first series and a 94 in the second. Chaudhary did not fare well in the first series, shooting 96, but he rebounded strongly, shot 98 in the second. However, after four 8s by Bhaker in the two series, it was always going to be an impossible task for the Indians.

China’s Jiang Ranxin and Pang Wei took the 10m Air Pistol mixed event gold medal while ROC’s Batsarashkina Vitalina and Chernousov Artem settled for silver. Ukraine’s Kostevych  Olena and Omelchukh Oleh took home bronze.
