Indian sprinter Hima Das tests negative for COVID-19

Patiala: Star Indian sprinter Hima Das, a star Indian sprinter, said on Thursday that she had tested negative for Covid-19 a week after acquiring the virus. On her return to the national camp in Patiala last week, the 21-year-old tested positive for COVID-19.

Das, one of the most exciting athletes in Indian athletics, announced the news on Twitter after recovering from a hamstring injury.

“I am pleased to tell everyone that I have tested negative for Covid-19. Thank you all for the loving messages. Can’t wait to get back on track. Hope everyone is safe and healthy. #TestedNegativeButStayingPositive #BackOnTrack,” she wrote.

Das failed to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics after clocking a time of 23.21s in the Federation Cup in March this year, missing the qualifying threshold of 22.80s.

Her Olympic qualification aspirations in the Nationals were also ruined by the hamstring rupture. She had then taken a brief break to tend to the injuries. Das rose to prominence after becoming the first Indian sprinter to win a global title at the World Junior Championships in Finland in 2018.

She was a part of the gold-winning women’s 4x400m relay and mixed 4x400m relay teams at the 2018 Asian Games, in addition to capturing an individual 400m silver.
