Jakarta: In a Super 4s match against South Korea on Tuesday, the youthful Indian hockey team produced some remarkable and fast-paced hockey, but a 4-4 draw threw them out of the Asia Cup title chase.

Following Malaysia’s 5-0 win against Japan earlier in the day, an outright victory became a must for India to qualify for the summit match. In the Super 4 stage, India, Malaysia, and Korea all ended with five points, however the Birendra Lakra-led team fell short on goal difference.

Nilam Sanjeep Xess (9th minute), Dipsan Tirkey (21st minute), Mahesh Sheshe Gowda (22nd minute), and Shakthivel Mareeswaran (37th minute) scored for India, while Jang Jonghyun (13th minute), Ji Woo Cheon (18th minute), Kim JungHoo (28th minute), and Jung Manjae (37th minute) scored for Korea (44th).

On Wednesday, Korea will play Malaysia in the final, while India will face Japan in the third-fourth place classification match.
