Mumbai: India wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav sounded confident of a good show in Sri Lanka and hoped that hard work will pay off in the limited-overs series next month. He also felt that consistent performances in the island nation will put him in the spotlight for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Kuldeep hasn’t been in the best of form in the last two years. He also lost his place in the Kolkata Knight Riders playing XI in the IPL. “This Sri Lanka tour is very, very important because, first of all, I’m not a part of the Test squad (in England). And secondly, this is one good opportunity to play and perform,” Kuldeep was quoted as saying to The Telegraph.

“Thereafter, we’ve got the IPL as well, which gives me another opportunity to be back in the reckoning.” The left-arm chinaman also spoke about his chances of being part of India’s T20 World Cup squad and believed that if he keeps performing consistently, nothing can stop him from making a comeback.

“Nothing parallels performance, and if I perform, I know I’ll definitely be back, honestly, I’m not thinking much about a T20 World Cup berth now because it eventually boils down to how well I keep doing. There’s healthy competition in the squad, so I know what my job is,” Kuldeep said.

The 26-year-old’s performances in Sri Lanka would be crucial to his future. India will play three ODIs from July 13, followed by three T20Is against Sri Lanka scheduled from July 21.
