Buenos Aires: Lionel Messi and co. put up a spectacular show as they La Albiceleste  secured a 3-0 win against Venezuela in the La Bombonera stadium in Argentina. Nicolos Gonzalez, Angel Di Maria and Lionel Messi featured on the scoresheet for Argentina. The encounter saw Messi score his 760th career goals.

 

While, the game was a treat to watch, a bizzarre possibility has shaken the Albiceleste fans. According to several occasions this could be talisman Lionel Messi’s last game in the Argentine soil.

Messi won his most anticipated Copa America trophy the previous year after ousting Brazil banking on Angel Di Maria’s goal. Other than the international trophy glory, Lionel Messi had achieved all the accolades for his country earlier. It has been speculated that winning Copa America with Argentina was the last wish to tick off from the seven time Ballon d’or winner’s list. However, with the World Cup right on the brim, Messi is set to take one more chance at the ultimate international glory.

The speculation of Messi’s retirement post 2022 FIFA World Cup was more firmly established by Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni himself. The gaffer was seen saying, Tomorrow he [Messi] has the opportunity to play in his country, with his people,”.

“Surely the last match we could play here and he can say goodbye to Argentina in the best way and hope that the future is even better.” he added. 

Although Lionel Messi has not surely stated about his retirement from International football, he made a statement  hinting at that disaster. “I don’t know what I will do after the World Cup. I am thinking about what is coming,” Messi said. “After Qatar I will have to rethink many things.” said the PSG front man.

While the success and the dominance of an undefeated Argentina has brought about a constant happiness among the fans, but if this has been Lionel Messi’s ultimate game in the Argentina soil, it has left the fans asking for more of the Argentine talisman.
