Kozhikode, Kerala | September 1, 2026: Spanish centre-back Mikel Kortazar joins the Malabarians, bringing his experience from Spanish and Indian football to the Gokulam Kerala FC backline.
The experienced defender featured for DHFC in the Durand Cup and Indian Football League, where he was part of the squad that won the Indian Football League last season.
Before moving to India, Mikel played in Spain, representing clubs including SD Tarazona, SD Amorebieta, CD Calahorra and UD Logroñés. He has competed in several levels of Spanish football, including Primera Federación and Segunda División B, as well as the Copa del Rey.
Mikel now joins Gokulam Kerala FC with his experience, physical presence and defensive qualities set to strengthen the Malabarians’ backline.
Head Coach Carlos Eduardo Parreira welcomed the new addition to the squad:
“Mikel is a talented young player with good qualities at the back. He has the potential to develop further and brings good energy and competition to our defensive unit. We believe he will be a very good addition to the team and will contribute to our ambitions this season.”
