London: The Gareth Bale saga is almost over as the player landed on London Luton Airport along with his Real Madrid teammate Sergio Reguilon on Friday (September 18), who is also set to join Spurs.

Bale returns to his former club for a year-long spell. Spurs have reportedly agreed to pay about £20 M in wages and loan fees for the Wales captain. Bales left Spurs seven years ago when he was bought by Real Madrid for a then-record of £86 M.

Since his arrival in Madrid, he has scored more than 100 goals for the men in white and won four Champions League. Lately, he had a strained relationship with Zinedine Zidane and the Spanish Media, even Real fans. He has been left off the squad numerous times, sometimes owing to his injury-prone nature.

The player has been quite vocal about wanting to play somewhere he feels respected and appreciated again. In 2019, Real Madrid rejected an offer from the Chinese League club Jiangsu Suning. Since then he has played 20times for the current Spanish Champions.

Bale would be looking forward to returning to his former club and start things afresh. Jose Mourinho has stayed tight-lipped about this transfer rumours, but was quite vocal about his admiration for the player, “I tried to sign him for Real Madrid, which was not possible to do during my time there. But the president followed my instinct and my knowledge and the season I left he brought Gareth to the club. It’s not a secret, even Gareth knows that.”

Spurs started their campaign with a loss against Everton by 1-0 at home. Bale would surely be a boost to the squad. The sense of urgency to deploy someone at the right flank is solved with the arrival of Bale. Lucas Moura’s performance over the right flank was often questioned, Bale is going to be the required upgrade to the squad.
