Suryapet: About 100 people got injured after a temporary gallery collapsed just before the start of a Kabbadi tournament in the Suryapet district of Telangana on March 22.

The tragic incident occurred at the SP Office grounds in Suryapet where a large crowd gathered to witness the inaugural ceremony of the 47th National Junior Kabaddi tournament. However, suddenly, a stand on which many people were seated collapsed.
As per reports, the capacity of each gallery was around 4000 spectators. The injured were immediately taken to the Suryapet government hospital while a few critically injured were being taken to hospitals in Hyderabad.
Over 1500 participants from 29 states are participating in the Kabaddi championship. Also for the first time, Sikkim is taking part in a national-level event. The matches are being conducted on synthetic kabaddi mats in a league cum knock-out format under floodlights.
