Rome: A young girl who had been in hospital since a dreadful car accident that killed her best friend in December 2019, got to meet her idol Francesco Totti. 19-year-old Ilenia Matilli received a video message from Totti, which helped in her fight and gradual awakening from coma. “Hold on and don’t give up,” Totti said in the video message, which was requested by her parents.
Through a special blackboard, she wrote that she wanted to meet Totti. Though Ilenia played for the women’s football team of Roma’s rival Lazio, she wore the Roma jersey which was signed by Totti. The AS Roma legend spent almost over an hour with her in the hospital. The video message sent by Totti helped her in the recovery process. After hearing his voice, she showed advanced signs of recovery.
“I want to see you out of the hospital soon and get your life back,” Totti said. The doctor who heads the neurorehabilitation unit in Gemelli hospital said that it is a long process but they are confident.
