Kolkata : In a major development for Indian hockey, Hockey India and the Government of Tamil Nadu have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to host the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025. The prestigious international tournament is set to take place from November 28 to December 10, 2025, and will be co-hosted in Chennai and Madurai—marking a significant milestone for the sport in the region.
The MoU signing ceremony, held in Chennai, also featured the unveiling of the tournament’s official logo, marking the formal countdown to one of the most highly anticipated global hockey events. For the first time in the history of the Junior World Cup, the tournament will feature 24 teams, making it the most expansive and inclusive edition yet. The signing was attended by key dignitaries including Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin, Dr. Atulya Misra (Additional Chief Secretary), Meghanath Reddy (Member Secretary, SDAT), along with top officials from Hockey India like Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh, Treasurer Sh. Sekar J. Manoharan and Director General Cdr. R.K. Srivastava. Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin expressed pride and enthusiasm over Tamil Nadu being chosen as the host state. Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey emphasized the importance of the Junior World Cup as a breeding ground for future legends of the sport. He praised Tamil Nadu’s proactive support for hockey and stated that this edition, with a record number of teams, promises to be historic.
The FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025 represents a monumental step for Indian hockey, especially in promoting the sport at the grassroots and youth levels.
