Goa: FC Goa stayed in the race for the Indian Super League (ISL) playoffs with a 2-1 win over Bengaluru FC on Sunday at the Fatorda Stadium on Sunday. The result ends Bengaluru FC’s slim chances of finishing in the top four.

Goa took a quickfire lead through Igor Angulo in the 20th minute and Redeem Tlang in the 23rd minute before Suresh Wangjam in the 33rd minute cut short Bengaluru’s deficit.

With the result, Goa not only consolidated their spot in the top four but are also now unbeaten in 12 games – matching their own record between 2014 and 2015 and Mumbai City’s 12-game run this season.

The match started excitingly to say atleast as both teams was equally pressing in opponents defence to score. Dheeraj Singh had some issues under the Goa goal as he slipped up twice but the Bengaluru players failed to capitalise on the situation.

Gonzalves broke the deadlock for Goa, thanks to a defensive error of Eric Paartalu. Three minutes later Tlang doubled the lead for Goa, this time due to some ghastly defending of Bengaluru.

But Bengaluru was looking to hit back on counter and young Suresh scored a wonder goal to reduce the margin. Bengaluru could have scored after that too in the first half but Dheeraj and the woodwork saved Goa from doing so.

This win helps Goa to move to 30 points from 19 matches and are one step close towards the play-off.
