Cornellà de Llobregat :Real Madrid faced a shocking defeat against Espanyol as the latter won by 2-1 with the winning goal scored by former Barcelona player Aleix Vidal, on Sunday (October 3).

Raul de Tomas opened the scoring for Espanyol on 23 minutes from a close range, after Real dominated possession for the opening few minutes. But it was former Barcelona man, Vidal who scored the winning goal just at the 60 minutes mark, after nutmegging Nacho.

Although, Karim Benzema pulled one back for the visitors but they could not produce the equaliser and hence endured the first defeat of the La Liga season. With six minutes still remaining, Madrid thought they had their equaliser but the goal by Eden Hazard was ruled out by VAR.

Carlo Ancelotti’s tough time continued on the pitch. Following the goalless draw against Villarreal in La Liga and another shocking defeat at home against Sheriff Tiraspol in the UEFA Champions League, the Los Blanco were under pressure to perform but the Catalan side grabbed all the three points.

“We weren’t comfy. We conceded early and that makes the game tougher for you,” Madrid defender Nacho said. “They got in behind us a lot, and we need to work on our defensive play and that will come with games.

“We’ve got a number of players missing, but we still have a good squad and we should be doing better than in our last three games. We need to improve at the back and respond.”
