EPL: Mason Mount stands out as Chelsea retain top spot; City power through Brighton

London: Mason Mount helped Chelsea retain their top spot in Premier League, with a resounding hattrick against a 10 man Norwich City. Chelsea won 7-0 against Norwich. Elsewhere, Manchester City cruised past Brighton with a 4-1 victory.

Despite being without both their first-choice strikers Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, Chelsea had no trouble finding the back of the net. Mount opened the scoring for the Blues within the opening eight minutes, he fired a shot from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Callum Hudson-Odoi doubled the lead for the hosts as Reece James scored the third goal for his team just before the break. Ben Chilwell kept the dominating run for the league toppers intact as he added the fourth goal for the Blues. Norwich City had their woes doubled when defender Max Aarons scored an own goal and soon afterward Ben Gibson was sent off.

Mason Mount scored his brace from the penalty spot after it was retaken, initially the penalty was saved but Mount made no mistake in his second attempt and scored. He completed his hat-trick deep into the extra time.

Phil Foden scored a brace for the Citizens at the Amex Stadium, to direct the 4-1 victory against Brighton. Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring for City from a simple tap-in. Followed by Foden netting twice on 28 and 31 minutes. Riyad Mahrez scored the fourth the one for City deep in the stoppage time to seal the game for Pep Guardiola’s men.
