Norwich: Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the spot to give Manchester United a narrow 1-0 win over Norwich City in Premier League. Liverpool also barely scraped past Aston Villa with the lone goal coming from the spot kick.

David De Gea had to make numerous saves to keep United into the game. A shot from Ronaldo was beaten away by Tim Krul in the 37th minute. United was given a penalty on 73 minutes when Scott McTominay crossed a ball into the box and Ronaldo was pulled down by Max Aarons inside the area.

The Portuguese made no mistake to convert it as United barely edged past Norwich and moved to the fifth spot in the league table. This was Ralf Rangnick’s second game in charge. “I haven’t seen that many teams play against the top teams as Norwich did so,” Rangnick said after the game. “They didn’t play like a bottom team.

Steven Gerrard returned to Anfield, as his team was defeated by a narrow 1-0 margin. Mohamed Salah converted a penalty to somehow drag Liverpool behind the winning line. Salah went down in the box as he was challenged by Tyrone Mings. The Egyptian made no mistake as he fired home the spot-kick.

The Villa fans were not happy with the decision even Gerrard considered the decision to be a “soft decision”. “I thought Liverpool were better in terms of general play. Their style was better than ours, but we’ve done so well to contain them for large periods. Ultimately the game has been decided by a penalty. There were two penalty incidents in the game, Liverpool got theirs,” he said.

Whereas, Leeds United gave Chelsea a tough fight as penalty again came to the rescue. The Blues clinched all three points with a 3-2 win over Leeds, with the Jorginho scoring two penalties.

Raphinha scored a first-half penalty and gave Marcelo Bielsa’s side an early lead. Although Mason Mount equalized subsequently Jorginho’s spot-kick gave Chelsea the lead. Joe Gelhardt however struck late on to bring both the sides level, but it was Jorginho’s late penalty that saved the day for Thomas Tuchel’s men.

“It was a nice game of football. Very intense and I’m very happy with how we played,” Tuchel said after the game.

“I think we deserved to win but of course it’s lucky when you have a late goal in extra time. But coming back twice is very impressive and I’m very happy we turned things around. It was tough work but we didn’t expect anything else.

“We were lucky, we needed this. We were unlucky in the last two games conceding very late goals so maybe this is exactly what we needed.”
