ENG vs IND, 4th Test, Day 3: Joe Root smashes record breaking ton to put England in dominant position

Manchester : Joe Root smashed his 38th Test hundred at Manchester against India in 4th Test’s Day 3 to put England in command.

England finished Day 2 on 225-2 with Ollie Pope and Joe Root at crease, trailing by 133 runs.

The duo went on to score 141 runs partnership. Pope (71) and Harry Brook were dismissed by Washington Sundar on quick succession.

Joe Root went on to play record knock of 150 (148) comprising 14 boundaries. Not only did he score his 38th Test ton but also went past Ricky Ponting to become the 2nd highest run scorer in Test Cricket history and is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar. He also smashed 142 runs partnership with skipper Ben Stokes (77*).

After Root’s dismissal on 499 runs, England went on to lose 2 more wickets and ended the day on 544-7 with Stokes and Liam Dawson (21*) at crease.
