Guwahati : In the second game of Durand Cup 2023, talented Parthib Gogoi stole the show as NorthEast United FC secured a convincing 4-0 win in their season opener against Shillong Lajong FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati.

The 20-year-old showed his skills with a first senior hat-trick that too on his Durand Cup debut. Highlanders put up an outstanding and impressive show in their first Group D match. NorthEast United FC dominated their opponent and continuously threatened the the opposition defence. The breakthrough came just before the half an hour mark when Rochharzela made a powerful run from the left and unleashed a shot towards the goal. Though the initial attempt was saved, Parthib Gogoi was too agile to react and put into the net in the 26th minute. In the start of the second half, there were changes in the lineup with Jithin replacing Rochharzela and later, Shajan Franklin, Hira Mondal, and Gani Ahmed Nigam coming on as substitutes. The 20-year-old completed his hat-trick in 70th minutes. in the last quarter, Shillong Lajong pressed forward, creating some opportunities. However, NorthEast United FC’s solid defensive line, and Mirshad in goal, ensured that the clean sheet was preserved.
