Durand Cup 2021: Mohammedan SC reach knockouts; Army Green disappoint Jamshedpur FC

Kolkata: Mohammedan Sporting Club routed CRPF FC with a 5-1 scoreline to secure their spot in the knockout stages of Durand Cup 2021 at Kalyani Stadium on September 10. Elsewhere, at Vivekananda Yuvabharati Krirangan, Jamshedpur FC was shocked by Army Green on their second matchday.

Azharuddin Mallick and Marcus Joseph each found the net twice along with Brandon for Mohammedan SC. Azharuddin gave his side an early lead in about 13 minutes from the kick-off. Last edition’s top scorer Joseph scored two in two minutes in just 19 minutes from the second half. Azharuddin scored a second in the dying minutes of the game extending the lead. While CRPF substitute Amarjeet Singh pulled a goal back for his side.

A minute later substitute Brandon score for the Black and Whites to cancel it out. With two goals and an assist to his name, Azharuddin received the honor of being the man of the match and was assured that they would not be taking FC Bengaluru United easy although the latter had secured their position in the knockout stages already.

On the other hand, Army Green caused riots against Jamshedpur FC as they beat the ISL side 3-1. Deepak Singh netted in twice along with Sochin Chhetri to give the regimental side an upper hand in the do-or-die match.

Although Jamshedpur captain Jitendra Singh reduced the gap from a spot-kick at 61′ but they were no more goals against the regimental side.
