Goa: A super strike from David Williams earned ATK Mohun Bagan a 1-0 over Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa on Monday (December 21).

ATK Mohun Bagan lined up in a 5-4-1 formation with a trio Sandesh Jhingan Tiri and Carl McHugh started at the heart of the defence. Manvir Singh and David Williams playing as wide attackers while Edu Garcia and Pronay Halder were positioned in the middle of the park with Roy Krishna played forward as a single striker.

The match started well with both sides playing with intensity but it was the home side who were causing early problems to the Bengaluru defence. The Blues although were having a fair amount of possession on the ball but weren’t making much in terms of creating goal-scoring opportunities.

ATK evidently broke the deadlock courtesy of a wonder strike from David Williams who received a long ball from midfield before cutting inside showing great composure and control beating the two Bengaluru defenders before unleashing a hard-rising long-range drive for which even a goalkeeper like Gurpreet Singh Sandhu had no answers. The goal would probably make it into the list of contenders for the goal of the season.

In the second half, chances came for the home side quite regularly. Williams attempted another long-range drive but the shot was wide of the goal while Roy Krishna a few minutes later got free to attempt a volley but the shot wasn’t on target.

Bengaluru probably had their best chance when Cleiton Silva was in a good position to score but he somehow missed an absolute sitter.

In the rest of the half, ATK constantly asked questions to Bengaluru’s defence as the visitors missed a bit of spark in the match.ATK took full three points to stand at the second spot behind Mumbai City FC while Bengaluru stand at the third.
