Cristiano Ronaldo steals show on Manchester United return

Manchester: Cristiano Ronaldo found the net twice as he made his much awaited first appearance in the Manchester United jersey for the second time, at Old Trafford against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Although there were much adverse speculations, but to the relief of the fans, Ronaldo finally started for the Red Devils . The squad seemed thriving with energy with the five time Ballon d’Or winner leading the front. The team have had a lot of upfront advancements and the deserving goal came from the Portuguese skipper himself in the added time of the first half. As he did his famous celebration, the crowd could not withhold their emotions as nostalgia stirred up in them.

New Castle found an equalizer in about 11 minutes from the second half courtesy of Javier Manquillo but Ronaldo was at it again and gave United the upper hand when he powered in a sublime pass from Luke Shaw. His national team compatriot Bruno Fernandes who had often been mocked and criticised for finding the net through spot kicks, answered back with a screaming long ranger with 10 minutes on the clock. Coming off the bench, Jesse Lingard scored the fourth goal of the night for the Red Devils to seal the victory.

Chelsea returned to their winning ways with a 3-0 win against Aston Villa ,after a draw against Liverpool before the international break. Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring for the Blues as early as 15 minutes before Mateo Kovacic extended it right after the second half started. The final came from Lukaku himself during the stoppage time.

Earlier the same day former Manchester City star Patrick Viera secured his first victory as a coach after his defeated Tottenham Hotspurs 3-0. Super sub Odsonne Eduardo and Wilfried Zaha featured in the scoresheet for the win. While Aubameyang scores the only goal against Norwich City as Arsenal land their maiden win.

A second half goal from Bernardo Silva saw Manchester City edge past Leiciester City while Watford and Brentford faltered against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton.
