Lenzerheide: Swiss tennis player Roger Federer will miss Wimbledon 2022 after announcing on Saturday that he will not return to any tournament until at least late summer, following knee surgery last year.

When he attended a women’s World Cup ski event in Lenzerheide, where he has a residence, the 40-year-old tennis legend delivered an update on his lengthy rehabilitation to Swiss broadcaster SRF.

It backed with Federer’s comments from November that he wouldn’t be back in time for Wimbledon in June, though he didn’t say anything about his plans for the U.S. Open, which begins Aug. 29.

Federer told SRF that his recovery was going well enough that he was considering returning to the game. He previously stated that his surgery last August was motivated by a desire to protect his future quality of life with his family rather than a desire to return to professional tennis.

The Swiss player’s 20 Grand Slam singles titles are tied with Novak Djokovic and one less than Rafael Nadal, who won his 21st at the Australian Open in January.
