Kolkata: Churchill Brothers took full three points in a thriller against Gokulam Kerala FC ending on a 3-2 scoreline while RoundGlass Punjab FC registered a 1-0 win over NEROCA  in the final matchday of the first phase of the ongoing I-league.

With intent to keep their hopes for the title alive, Gokulam Kerala hosted league leaders Churchill Brothers in the first game of the afternoon at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Monday (March 1). The visitors had the upper hand from the start.

Luka Majcen opened his account in the first before an own goal from Gokulam’s Deepak Devrani put the visitors ahead. Despite a man down, the hosts pushed hard in the second half before Philip Adjah’s 80th minute strike put hopes to them.

However, a tough challenge in the box gave Churchill the chance to clinch three points. Majcen stepped up and converted his spot-kick sealing despite a late goal for the hosts by Jithin MS. The visitors still are unbeaten in the league at the top of the tree.

In the evening, RoundGlass Punjab FC locked horns with NEROCA to put pressure on the league leaders Churchill Brothers at the Kalyani Stadium. Punjab saw much of the ball taking five shots on the target in the first half. Baba Diawara headed home the only goal in the match for Punjab.

The hosts tried their best but were unable to find any opening. Punjab took full three points to stand second behind league leaders Churchill Brothers.
