Chokers of the Decade: Twitterati lash out at Virat Kohli & Co. after WTC loss

New Delhi: Exactly eight years ago, India won the Champions Trophy by defeating England under the leadership of former skipper MS Dhoni. After that India have not won an ICC tournament, despite reaching the knockout stage six times. After eight long years, the dream has broken once again for India as the Virat Kohli-led side failed to win another final of the ICC tournament.

This is the 32-year-old’s third loss as a captain in an ICC tournament. The first loss came in Champions Trophy Final against Pakistan in 2017, the second came in the 50-Over World Cup against New Zealand in 2019, followed by the last one against New Zealand in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.

Fans turned furious after another failure of India in an ICC tournament under Kohli’s captaincy, and they started bashing Kohli and the team by calling them the ‘new chokers’ of cricket.

Netizens didn’t stop here, as they also started a captaincy debate between current skipper Kohli and Dhoni. Dhoni is the only captain to win all the ICC trophies for India – T20 World Cup, 50-over World Cup, and Champions Trophy.
