Chennaiyin FC sign Indian defender ahead of ISL 2021-22

Chennai: Indian Super League (ISL) side Chennaiyin FC sign Indian defender Salam Ranjan Singh ahead of the upcoming season. As per reports, the 25-year-old Centre-back joined the former ISL champions on a multi-year deal after spending last season with ATK Mohun Bagan. The Club announced the signing on social media on Friday (June 2).

“It feels amazing to join Chennaiyin FC. My aim is to help the club achieve its goals while garnering as much playing time as possible.” said Salam from his hometown in Manipur on the move.

“Through my hard work and dedication, I hope to establish my place in the squad, and give my very best for the club and our supporters. My hunger to perform has never been greater, and I have been focusing on my fitness and self-analysis so as to become a better player and a better professional,” he further added.

After coming through the youth ranks of I-league side Pune FC winning two consecutive youth leagues, Salam made senior debut of Pune in 2013-14,featuring in the I-League and AFC Cup before moving to the likes of Bengaluru FC and Kolkata giants East Bengal. Salam then went on to play for ATK (Currently ATK Mohun Bagan) winning the 2019-20 title.

Standing over 6ft, the lad from Manipur has that old-school style in his game. He is great in positional football and also in aerial ball and this what makes him a complete package at the back. Salam made his international debut in 2017, earning 11 caps so far while also featuring for the national side in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
