London: Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have sacked  Manager Jose Mourinho on Monday (April 19). Spurs, who now are at seventh position in the Premier League will probably miss out on the Champions League next season.

“The club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties,” Spurs said in their official statement.

Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019. In 86 games, he wrapped 44 victories along with 19 draws as well as 23 defeats. But after a miserable domestic campaign as well as the recent failure in the UEFA Europa League, the Portuguese has been shown the exit door by the club.

Mourinho’s sacking has come just six days before his side was set to face off against Manchester City in the EFL Cup final. “Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic,” Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said in the press release.

“On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution,” he added.
