Sydney: Former Australia cricketer Brad Hogg believed 21-year-old opener Prithvi Shaw could be an ideal replacement for Test specialist Chesteshwar Pujara at No.3 in the longest format of the game.

Hogg was answering to a fan’s question on his social media handle. He was asked whether wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul should replace Pujara in the five-match Test series against England starting August 4 in Nottingham. The 50-year-old former left-arm spinner said young Shaw would be a better pick at No.3.

“If anyone was going to replace Pujara it would be Prithvi Shaw. Feel he is more suited there than opening. Has a lot of talent and long future. He is not in the tour group but a wild card choice. #EngvIND,” Hogg tweeted.

Shaw, who has represented India in five Tests and three ODIs, has not donned the white jersey for India since the first Test of Border Gavaskar Trophy lastt year. He failed and as a result was dropped for the next three games. Shubman Gill replaced him. Shaw is currently in Colombo for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka starting from July 13.

On the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara, of late has failed to perform with the bat. Despite his valuable effort in Australia tour he is been criticized for his slow batting and strike rotation. In the last 24 months the 33-year-old failed to produce any significant knock. Pujara failed to impress in the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship final.
