Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, AUS vs IND, 5th Test, Day 3: Australia conquer Border Gavaskar Trophy for first time after 10 years

Sydney : Australia defeated India by 6 wickets at SCG, Sydney on Day 3 of 5th Test of Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and clinched the series 3-1. This is the first time since 2015 that Australia have conquered Border Gavaskar Trophy. With this win, India are knocked out from World Test Championship 2025 Final contention. Australia and South Africa will play the final.

India started the day with 141-6, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar at crease.

However, the India lost their rest 4 wickets in no time as they’re bundled for 157 runs, setting target of 162 runs for Australia. Scott Boland (6/45) & Pat Cummins (3/44) played pivotal role in India’s collapse.

Australia chasing 163 runs took an aggressive approach as Sam Konstas (22) & Usman Khawaja (41) smashed Indian bowlers. The Aussies had an upper hand as India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah didn’t take the field due to back spasm.

Australia lost cluster of wickets as Prasidh Krishna bagged 3-fer. They’re 58-3 at one stage giving hopes to Indian fans.

Khawaja notched vital 46 runs partnership with Travis Head (34).

After Khawaja’s dismissal, impressive debutant Beau Webster (39*) joined Head and took an aggressive approach with match winning 58 runs partnership.

Webster smashed Washington Sundar for boundary to hit winning runs and scripted history bagging the BGT after 10 years.

 

Scott Boland was adjourned Man of the match, while India’s lone warrior, Jasprit Bumrah with 32 wickets was adjourned Man of the series.
