Mogadishu: A bomb attack on the team bus of the Jubaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry Club (JCCI), reportedly killed four local footballers on Friday on their way to the Kismayo City Stadium for an upcoming game. Although the investigation is under process, the cause of the explosion is yet to be confirmed.

The explosion that occurred in Kismayo which is the capital city of the southern state of Jubaland is believed to have a terrorist connection. Jubaland is the first to start on their long-delayed election in Somalia. Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab threatened to disrupt the elections, which is an attempt by the extremists to overthrow their government.

“The blast was huge and caused devastating fire which burned down the bus, people rushed to remove the dead bodies and the wounded players,” said a witness. Another witness added, “I saw the burning bus and three dead bodies of the players, this was horrible because footballers are not politicians.”

The police officer reassured, “The investigation are going on, but we presume that the device was planted onto the bus.” Six others are critically injured.
