Kolkata : Mohun Bagan SG Footballer Samir Zeljkovic scored lone goal of IFA Shield 2026 final against East Bengal that led the Mariners 1-0 win at Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata.

Recently, Samir was only criticized for his slow movements and yet getting chances in the Playing XI. But when it mattered the most, Samir showed the World what he’s capable of.

Despite being a defensive midfielder, Samir put his name on scoreboard in the 45th minute of the game via assist of in form Sahal Abdul Samad. After finding the net, he almost ensured Bagan’s 22nd IFA Shield win before the Mariners stopped Red and Yellow storm to defend the title.

Samir termed this important goal as Best Goal in career, following the Durand Cup defeat against the same team.

In his words, “It’s a big stage. On top of that, there’s the final, on top of that, a derby-like match. That’s why I’m putting this goal forward. This is the biggest goal of my career”. The excitement seems to be even greater since the opponent is East Bengal.

He also acknowledged the fans for supporting Mohun Bagan despite the hard times they faced after Durand Cup loss earlier this year.

“It was hard to accept the Durand defeat,” he said. “But that’s football. It feels good to beat East Bengal. Thanks to the fans for standing by us in these difficult times”.

Mohun Bagan will next head to ISL 2026-27 campaign facing NorthEast United FC at Guwahati on October 12, carrying the momentum of this win.
