BCCI likely to host IPL 2021 from April 11: Reports

New Delhi: The 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to start from April 11 after the domestic competitions are over. BCCI had announced the staging of Vijay Hazare Trophy along with women’s one-dayers and U-19 Vinoo Mankad trophy as part of India’s domestic season for this year.

The BCCI and the IPL Governing Council will conduct the IPL in India this year. The board has earmarked the Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium, Reliance Cricket Stadium and the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium. The Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad, will also be considered for matches and is more likely to host the knockouts. While the final of the 2021 IPL would somewhere be around the first week of June.

“The final decision will be taken by IPL GC but 11th April is the tentative date to start IPL 2021. The series against England finishes in March and players will get a good break with 11th April start for IPL 14th,” the BCCI official was quoted as saying to TOI. The auction for the upcoming season will be held in Chennai on February 18, after a lot of deliberations.

Arun Dhumal, who is on the IPL GC, said that the board is confident of hosting the 2021 edition of IPL in India itself. The 2020 edition of the IPL was held in UAE. “We are working on having the IPL in India and we are hopeful that we would be able to organize it. We are not even thinking of a back-up also at this point in time, we are wanting to do it here,” he stated.
