Kolkata : Barcelona have once again written another golden page in their history by winning a 29th league title. The blaugranes been crowned champions of the 2025/26 season, securing a second consecutive trophy and consolidating a winning era while reaffirming its status as most important clubs in European football.
With the league title in the bag, Barça become the first team to successfully defend the trophy since the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, when the blaugranes under Ernesto Valverde claimed back-to-back La Liga championships.
This latest success in the domestic championship confirms Barça’s grip on the trophy in recent years. With the 2025/26 title in the bag, the team has now won 11 of the last 18 league championships, an extraordinary figure that illustrates the Club’s remarkable consistency.
Goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres put Barça into an early two-goal lead, and from there it was plain sailing until the final whistle.
Barça were flying from the first whistle and needed just nine minutes to break the deadlock. Rashford once again showed his quality from set pieces, catching everyone by surprise with a brilliantly placed free-kick from the edge of the area that flew into Thibaut Courtois’ top corner.
9 Minutes later, Dani Olmo cleverly flicked the ball back into space and only Torres seemed alive to the opportunity. He gathered possession and finished clinically while the Real Madrid defenders around him stood frozen in disbelief.
Real Madrid’s response was strangely flat. Gonzalo García squandered a good chance, but speculative efforts from distance never seriously troubled Joan Garcia.
The visitors improved after the break, and Jude Bellingham did find the net from an obvious offside position. But it was a procession for Barcelona, with Thibaut Courtois having to make several saves to stop the score from getting away from Real Madrid.
Barcelona can now push to reach 100 points and to win the league with the biggest ever winning margin and most wins but tonight it was all about sealing the title against their rivals.
