Abu Dhabi : Afghanistan kicked off their DP World Asia Cup 2025 campaign in dominant fashion, thrashing Hong Kong by 94 runs in Abu Dhabi. Batting first, Afghanistan posted an imposing 188/6, led by a composed 73 off 52* from Sediqullah Atal. Despite early wickets, Atal held firm, while Mohammad Nabi chipped in with a handy 33.

The innings turned explosive when Azmatullah Omarzai launched a late onslaught, smashing 53 off 21 deliveries, including 5 sixes, to propel Afghanistan to a commanding total.

In reply, Hong Kong never looked in contention. They slumped to 94/9 in 20 overs, with only Babar Hayat (39 off 43) offering brief resistance. Afghanistan’s bowlers were relentless — Gulbadin Naib (2/8) and Fazalhaq Farooqi (2/15) led the attack, while Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, and Omarzai each took a wicket.

Afghanistan’s complete performance handed them a huge Net Run Rate boost and set the tone for the tournament.
