Kolkata: Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup T20 tournament from August 27 to September 11, according to the Asian Cricket Council. The tournament, which switches between ODI and T20I forms, was last held in 2018, with India winning the title.

The tournament will feature all five Test teams from the continent: India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and hosts Sri Lanka, as well as one extra Asian team that will be determined following a qualification event starting on August 20.

One from among these- UAE, Kuwait, Singapore, or Hong Kong teams will be the tournament’s sixth team. After coming first and second in the ACC Western area tournament in 2020, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait qualified for the qualifications, while Singapore and Hong Kong qualified from the eastern region.

“The Asia Cup 2022 (T20 Format) will be held in Sri Lanka from 27 August – 11 September later this year. The Qualifiers for the same will be played 20 August 2022 onwards,” the ACC tweeted after its AGM.

The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in 2020 in Sri Lanka, however the pandemic put it back to 2021, then to 2022. Pakistan has been granted the hosting rights for the 2023 Asia Cup, which was initially scheduled to be held in the country in 2022.
