Mumbai: India’s stand in captain Ajinkya Rahane, who led team India in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli in Australia, arrived in Mumbai from Australia along with other members of Team India on Thursday (January 21). Rahane received a grand welcome upon his arrival from Australia following his team’s historic win in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Rahane was greeted by his wife Radhika Dhopavkar and daughter at the Mumbai airport. Upon his arrival at the residence, there was a grand celebration. Fans gathered in a big number and welcomed him with the beats of dhol, a garland of flowers. Rahane enjoyed the moment with his wife and daughter.

Leading the team in the absence of regular skipper Kohli, Rahane rallied his troops following India’s humiliating loss in Adelaide and made a memorable comeback to clinch the four-match series. Rahane scored 12th century in the Boxing-Day Test, and  beat Australia by 8 wickets in the second Test match in Melbourne. Rahane was also adjudged Player of the Match for his stunning hundred (112) in the first innings. In the fourth Test, Rahane scored a 24 off 22 balls to set the tone for India’s  run chase.  India beat Australia by three wickets, clinching the series 2-1.

Before leaving Australia, Rahane took to Twitter to thank all the supporters for constantly backing the team. “Thank you everyone for sending across all your good wishes. It’s your constant support and belief in the team that kept us motivated to bring the trophy back home,”
