AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey enlightens on future plans

Kolkata: The newly elected president of All India Football Federation Kalyan Chaubey along with Secretary General Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran, AIFF, Mr. Avijit Paul, Member, Executive Committee, AIFF; and Mr. Sunando Dhar, Deputy Secretary General, AIFF spoke to media persons today (9th September, 2022) at Kolkata.

Coming from the grassroots as a player, Chaubey believes that it’s the journalist, the locals and players in the amateur circuit who knows the best of problems faced by each state, each region and each community.

Women’s Football to be given importance

Focusing more on gender equality in Indian Football, the AIFF president disclosed that the federation has a plan to introduce a minimum salary cap for the players in the Indian Women’s League (IWL). AIFF is in talks with Sports Authority of India (SAI) to launch U-17 Women’s League. As the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup is round tthe corner, the AIFF will meet the Local Organising Committee (LOC) regarding the commencement of the tournament. Chaubey plans to promote the tournament with aids from the central government in 40 different locations with tablue or friendly matches.

India should send coach to Spain and Portugal

The AIFF President revealed that it has plans to take Indian licensed coaches and professional footballers along with the refrees to international level. With a new refree academy, they will soon be most sought-after people in their own profession at the world stage. “We believe that given the right education and directions, they too can prove to be the best in the world. We should try for that,” he commented. Stop asking from where we will be getting coaches, it’s time to ask where our coaches are heading to? “
