AFC Champions League 2: East Bengal hunt maiden win as they gear up to face Al-Seeb at Oman

0

Kolkata : Bengal’s historic club East Bengal are in desperate search for maiden win in AFC Champions League 2 Group stage berth as they face Oman’s Al-Seeb at Muscat, in an important clash that could predict their future in the competition.

East Bengal who performed brilliantly till now despite being winless will carry added confidence with their recent ISL 2026-27 form too against an opposition who have lost both their group games, and are bottom placed. In ISL East Bengal have secured consecutive away victories — a 4-0 triumph over Churchill Brothers FC in Goa followed by a 5-1 win over Inter Kashi FC.

East Bengal are in third place in the four-team group, having drawn one and lost one so far in 2 games. The Red and Yellow brigade despite leading 2-1 against Al-Shorta of Iraq in last game at Kolkata gave away the lead in the second half eventually losing 2-3. Even against Al-Hussein, despite leading the game 2-0 , they gave it away in 2nd half at Jordan and tied 2-2.

In both the games there’re defensive lapses all around and Antonio Habas with his men will look to improve and a good defense is need of the hour.

“The strength of this squad lies in our unity —everyone plays for the badge. Coach Habas has built an incredible team spirit inside the dressing room. Having scored the opening goal four times already this season, I take my responsibility as a senior player seriously. We have a crucial game ahead in Oman. Despite the gruelling schedule, champions don’t make excuses. We’re heading there to bring home all three points,” said East Bengal’s Dani Ramirez, who scored against Kashi. Ake Arnaud Loba also sounded determined to make a difference. “We played well in our first two ACL Two group matches, but couldn’t secure a victory. Hence, this away fixture in Oman is our chance to set things right,” said Loba, who scored twice against Kashi.

Lukasz Zwolinski, too, is focused on the task. “The more minutes I get, the faster I’ll adapt to the conditions here. We face Al-Seeb in Oman next, and it’s a must-win match for us in the ACL Two.”

Al-Seeb on the other hand are having a nightmare form. The Oman based club lost their previous game to Al-Hussein 0-3 at home. They also lost against Al-Shorta 1-0.

East Bengal need to make finish in top 2 of Group D to progress in next round. After being winless and 1 point in 2 games, they can reach maximum of 13 points if they win all 4 remaining games. If Al-Hussein end up losing both games against Al-Shorta and East Bengal win their two matches or take four points (one win, one draw), they will climb over Al-Hussein to acquire the second place. But if East Bengal are able to win both matches against Al-Seeb and also defeat Al-Hussein, they would have a very strong chance of establishing their stronghold on the second spot in the group.
