Kolkata: The United States continued their winning basketball tour in Berlin, defeating the Czech Republic 105-64 in their last Group D game at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
The Americans started the game impressively, racing to a 29-15 lead after the first quarter. The Czech Republic were unable to handle the US pressure, while Breanna Stewart scored eight of her 19 points in the first period to emerge as a stand-out performer for the four-time defending champions.
The U.S. continued to dominate in the second quarter, adding 28 points to take a commanding 57–33 advantage into half-time. Stewart was outstanding, finishing with 19 points, while Paige Bueckers added 10 points and five assists to strengthen the Americans’ attack. Seven rebounds and six assists, and the Americans moved the ball impressively and finished the game with 32 assists.
Czechia looked like they were on their way to scoring more points in the third period after the intermission, but the Americans re-established their dominance and took a 82-47 lead into the final period. The US defense was a huge problem for the Czech Republic, as they did not score anything for 4:24.
For Czechia, Eliška Joklová led the scoring with 19 points and three rebounds, showing some resistance against the dominant U.S. defence. However, her individual effort was not enough to prevent Czechia from falling to a heavy 105–64 defeat.
It was a formality for the Americans in the fourth, as they continued to increase the lead over the visitors, who were unable to score more than 20 points in the game. Angel Reese added 13 points, while Napheesa Collier and Jackie Young added 12 each. Caitlin Clark added nine points and seven assists in the game for the Americans, who posted a dominant 3-0 record in Group D and advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals as the group’s top seed.
Their victory streak in the World Cup has reached 33 games. The Americans will face the winner of the Hungary vs. Japan matchup in the next round.
