Kolkata: In the Duleep Trophy final at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, Mohammed Shami will be playing his milestone 100th first-class match.
To mark this special occasion, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) Treasurer Sanjay Das, on behalf of CAB President Sourav Ganguly, felicitated the veteran fast bowler in Chennai on Saturday. Das presented Shami with a special ‘No.100 Bengal jersey signed by Mr Ganguly’, a special ball signed by the former India captain, along with a silver plaque.
Shami’s East Zone team also handed him a jersey signed by his teammates.
East Zone team manager and CAB Finance Committee member Ayan Nandi was also present for the ocassion.
Prior to the final, Das also presented the East Zone team members a special customized sweet box, with a special message written on it by CAB President. “You don’t play finals to participate; you play them to win. Play aggressive, play for each other, and make the East Zone proud. Bring the Duleep Trophy home, boys! Best of Luck” – Sourav Ganguly.
TNCA Secretary U. Bhagwandas Rao also felicitated Shami.
Shami, who is currently on 99 first-class appearances, has taken 382 wickets in his career, including a career-best 8 for 90 in an innings during his long and distinguished domestic career. Few days ago during Duleep Trophy semi final, Shami completed 900 wickets in professional cricket, becoming just the sixth Indian fast bowler to reach this elite milestone.
