Jenni Hermoso returns to Atlético Madrid

Kolkata:The 36 year-old Spanish forward, Jenni Hersmoso has officially signed for Atlético Madrid Femenino, returning to the club for a third spell after four years in Mexico. The move brings one of the most experienced spanish players back to Liga F.

Hermoso first joined Atlético as a youth player, she played her first professional season in 2004 and spent several years developing at the club before eventually moving on to some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. She returned to Atlético De Madrid for the 18-19 season, and won the league title with them. Her latest return makes her story even more significant. Atletico is where she started and now they’ve welcomed her back as an established star.

Her career has grown enormously since her first days in the red and white shirt. Hermoso became a key player in FC Barcelona, has won multiple trophies there including The UEFA Women’s Champions League before she moved to Mexico in 2022. She played for Pachuca and later Tigres, where she continued to producing at the highest level. She has won two major trophies with Trigres, Liga MX femenil 2025 and Campeón de Campeonas 2024, her overall Mexico stint ended with 70+ appearances and 36+ goals.

The highlight of her career occurred with Spain at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. She was a key player on the team and celebrated lifting the trophy in Australia and New Zealand, playing a vital role in the attack, with 3 goals and 2 assists. Beyond her accomplishments on the field, she continues to be a significant influence in women’s football. Her return marks a personal full-circle moment. After departing from Tigres, Hermoso suggested that her future might be “close to home” before her move back to Spain was confirmed.

The timing is really interesting. Atlético’s new Liga F season kicks off with a Madrid derby against Real Madrid, allowing Hermoso to start her third chapter with Atlético in one of the most significant matches in Spanish women’s football.
