Kolkata: India finished with record number of 32 medals at International Taekwondo Championship 2026 held at Pattaya, Thailand. They won 7 Golds, 13 Silvers and 12 Bronzes in the 9th edition of the tournament.
India had a 38 players strong contingent comprising 33 athletes and 5 coaches, competing against players from different countries. It was coached by Ambrose Kumar Bora, a former Gold Medalist at Taekwondo for India.
Among the standout performers were from Assam, like Dhimani Hazarika (Gold – 53 KG Women’s Category) while Rairoop Khaklari secured Silver. Nihitta Pani secured Bronze in U18 46 KG G3 which was widely celebrated in Dima Hasao. Other notable Gold Medal winners were Nikter Yati, Nabam Nani, Sianiamalu Kri, Zirnya Tarh, all of them were from Arunachal Pradesh.
Assam and Arunachal Pradesh had strong contributions in India’s overall medal tally, with 19 Girls from Handique Girl’s College, 13 from Cotton University and 2 from Arya Vidyapeeth.
The Indian team’s overall dominance showed their growth in Taekwondo and the nation’s burden is on safe shoulders in future.
