Glasgow: Sachin Siwach continued his strong start by progressing to the pre-quarterfinals in boxing, while the women’s lawn bowls pair of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh extended their unbeaten run with another impressive performance. Meanwhile, Putul Sonowal’s unbeaten streak came to an end after he suffered his first defeat in the men’s singles event. In swimming, Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aryan Nehra narrowly missed out on a place in the men’s 400m freestyle final after delivering competitive performances against a strong field. India’s women’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball team also faced a difficult challenge, suffering a heavy defeat against Wales. In artistic gymnastics, India completed its campaign in the fifth subdivision. Overall, Day 3 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 turned out to be a productive and encouraging day for India, with several promising performances, determined efforts, and memorable moments on Saturday, July 25, in Glasgow.

Artistic Gymnastics:

India’s women’s artistic gymnastics team, comprising Pranati Nayak, Nishka Agarwal, Eshita Rewale, and Protistha Samanta, finished ninth in the women’s team all-around competition with a total score of 123.000 points. The team secured a fifth-place finish in the vault qualification, earning a spot in Monday evening’s vault final.

Pranati Nayak finished 11th with a score of 12.555, becoming the third reserve for the final. Eshita Rewale (11.725) and Nishka Agarwal (11.075) were eliminated. In the individual all-around standings, Protistha Samanta finished 27th with 42.250 points and became the third reserve, while Rewale placed 28th with 41.700 points.

India concluded the team event in ninth position with 123.000 points. Australia secured the gold medal with 158.400 points, Canada claimed the silver medal with 157.300 points, and England earned the bronze medal with 154.300 points.

Lawn Bowls:

India’s women’s pair of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh continued their impressive winning streak by recording their third consecutive victory in the women’s pairs sectional play in Section B. The Indian duo won the opening set 5-2 before Tonga staged a strong comeback to take the second set 6-4. However, Rupa and Pinki remained composed under pressure and held their nerve in the tie-break to secure another important victory. The win kept the Indian pair unbeaten in Section B alongside England, who currently lead the group on set difference. They will face Namibia next at 1:00 PM IST on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Putul Sonowal suffered his first defeat of the championship. He lost 0-2 (4-8, 8-9) to Malaysia’s Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple despite showing great determination and producing a spirited fightback in the second set after trailing 5-9.

Sonowal remains second in the Section D standings ahead of his upcoming clash against Malta’s Shaun James Parnis. The defeat prevented him from moving to the top of the table. With only the group winners advancing to the semi-finals, his chances of reaching the knockout stage now depend on the remaining results in the section.

Boxing:

India’s Sachin Siwach booked his place in the men’s 60kg round of 16 after securing a convincing 4-1 victory over Canada’s Keoma Al-Ahmadieh in his opening bout. The victory marked India’s second win in the boxing arena at Glasgow 2026, following Jadumani Singh’s dominant performance in the men’s 55kg category on Friday.

Siwach will next face England’s William Hewitt in the round of 16, as he looks to continue his impressive run and move closer to the medal rounds.

Swimming:

Indian swimmers Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aryan Nehra narrowly missed out on qualifying for the men’s 400m freestyle final. Shashikumar clocked 3:58.09 to finish 15th overall among 27 swimmers, while Nehra placed 16th with a time of 4:00.26. Both swimmers showcased determination against a strong field but narrowly missed the chance to compete in the final.

Sam Short of Australia won the gold medal with a time of 3:41.25, while fellow Australians Elijah Winnington secured the silver medal and Benjamin Goedemans claimed the bronze medal.

Women’s 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball:

India endured a challenging outing in the women’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball competition, suffering a comprehensive 1-16 defeat against Wales in their Group B fixture. Wales dominated the match from the start and maintained control throughout the game. Following the defeat, India will aim to bounce back in their upcoming matches against Scotland and Nigeria on Monday.

Sunday, July 26, promises to be a crucial chapter in India’s Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign, with several medal opportunities on the horizon, led by weightlifting star Mirabai Chanu. As boxers begin their medal campaigns, swimmers aim to deliver strong performances, and athletes continue their challenges in lawn bowls and artistic gymnastics, Day 4 is set to provide an exciting mix of championship ambitions, intense competition, and emerging talents determined to make their mark on the global stage.
