Kolkata : The Calcutta Football League 2026-27 is all set to start on July 12, 2026 with opening game between 41 times and defending champion East Bengal and George Telegraph FC.
CFL was supposed to start at the end of the June but was postponed. There were much talks regarding the delay in start provided that Durand Cup, ACL 2 and Indian Super League will come ahead later this year. However, the CFL will finally start, much to the delight of the fans. Fixtures for first round till July 15 have been announced.
There was a question about whether Diamond Harbour, Suruchi Sangha and Sribhumi Sporting would play or not.
The IFA secretary said today that Suruchi Sangha will play. But Diamond Harbour and Sribhumi were given a deadline of June 30. In that time, it was not said whether two clubs would play or not. In order not to spoil the arrangement of the two groups, some changes had to be made in the groups. Both groups will have 13 teams each. Earlier, Groups were drawn via Lottery System. However, the turmoil regarding Diamond Harbour, Sribhumi and Suruchi Sangha led to regrouping.
For example, Measures Club has been brought from Group A to Group B whereas, Suruchi are kept in Group A. They’ve not yet completed players registration.
Like previous years, this season will also see Super 6 stages after Group Stage. However, teams won’t carry their group points there. East Bengal and Mohun Bagan have been placed in same group (Group 1).
