Himachal Pradesh: Delhi Capitals secured a brilliant three-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in a high-scoring thriller, successfully completing the highest-ever run chase at HPCA Stadium during the 55th match of the Indian Premier League on Monday, 11 May 2026. Chasing a daunting target of 211, skipper Axar Patel and David Miller delivered outstanding half-centuries, guiding DC to a memorable victory.
Delhi Capitals came into the match with a few important changes in their playing XI. David Miller returned to strengthen the middle order, while Abishek Porel, Sahil Parakh, Madhav Tiwari, and Auqib Nabi were included in the lineup. Madhav Tiwari also made his IPL debut. Punjab Kings made one change, with Ben Dwarshuis replacing Lockie Ferguson in the starting XI.
The match began with DC won the toss and elected to bowl first. Priyansh Arya started explosively, setting the tone early in the innings by smashing 56 off just 33 balls, including six sixes with fearless and flawless hitting. With that innings, he achieved a remarkable record. After Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who currently tops the list for the most 50-plus scores in overs 1-6 among Indian batters in IPL history with four such scores, Priyansh Arya now follows closely with three. Meanwhile, Prabhsimran Singh supported Priyansh perfectly from the other end as PBKS dominated the powerplay. The opening partnership of 72 runs was finally broken by Auqib Nabi, while another breakthrough came from debutant Madhav Tiwari, who dismissed Priyansh Arya to claim his maiden IPL wicket. DC’s bowlers made an impressive comeback by slowing down the scoring rate, which at one stage looked set to cross 250. Skipper Shreyas Iyer played a composed and classy innings, bringing up a brilliant half-century. With that knock, Shreyas Iyer continued his remarkable consistency against Delhi Capitals, entering an elite IPL list previously occupied only by Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid. The Punjab Kings captain scored an unbeaten 59 off 36 balls in Dharamsala, registering his third successive 50-plus score against DC. In doing so, Shreyas equalled a rare IPL record for the most consecutive 50 plus scores against Delhi. In the bowling department, DC played a significant role in controlling the scoring during the middle overs, while debutant Madhav Tiwari impressed with figures of 2/40 in his four overs.
Chasing 211, DC suffered an early setback with a disappointing start as wickets fell quickly during the powerplay. Abishek Porel was dismissed by Yash Thakur after scoring 5 off 6 balls, while Arshdeep Singh removed KL Rahul for 9 off 8 and young player Sahil Parakh for 13 off just 4 balls. DC were struggling at 33/3 in 4.3 overs. After DC tried to settle the innings, Tristan Stubbs was run out by Cooper Connolly, leaving DC at 74/4 in 8.2 overs. However, the innings was brilliantly revived by Axar Patel and David Miller. While PBKS kept building pressure with timely wickets, captain Axar Patel delivered a sensational skipper’s knock of 56 off 30 balls, while David Miller matched the tempo with an outstanding 51 off 28 deliveries. The duo stitched together a crucial 64-run partnership in just 34 balls, bringing DC right back into the contest. Both played a major role in the successful chase after the quick collapse of the top order. After their dismissals, Ashutosh Sharma played an excellent cameo of 24 runs from just 10 balls, providing a powerful finish before being dismissed by Yash Thakur. Madhav Tiwari remained unbeaten on 18 off 8 balls, while Auqib Nabi smashed 10 off just 2 balls, including a six, to finish the chase in style as DC reached 216/7 with six balls to spare. Madhav Tiwari’s outstanding all-round contribution — picking up two wickets earlier in the day and calmly finishing the chase — rightfully earned him the Player of the Match award. Though PBKS started strongly with both bat and ball, they were ultimately unable to defend the total as they failed to take crucial wickets in the later stages of the match.
With this victory, DC kept their playoff hopes alive and moved to seventh position on the points table with 10 points, while PBKS suffered their fourth consecutive defeat and remained fourth on the table with 13 points.
