London : England had upper hand on Day 1 of 5th Test of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, however Karun Nair’s half century at Kennington Oval, London, helped India ease off pressure.
Both the team made 4 changes while coming into this test. India roped in Dhruv Jurel, Karun Nair, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep in place of Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur, Anshul Kamboj and Jasprit Bumrah. While England included Jacob Bethell, Josh Tongue, Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson in place of Ben Stokes, Liam Dawson, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer.
India Batting first lost openers – Yashasvi Jaiswal (2) and KL Rahul (14) early on 38 runs. After good start, Shubman Gill (21) got run out following a misunderstanding with Sai Sudharsan (38) on 83. Sudharsan played good knock but was dismissed off a jaffer from Josh Tongue. Ravindra Jadeja (9) was also dismissed by Tongue soon on 123-5. Dhurv Jurel (19) also departed after 30 runs stand with Karun Nair (52*).
The last pair of the day – Nair and Washington Sundar (19*) notched up 50 runs partnership. Karun Nair completed his half century in front of dangerous Tongue and Atkinson, who picked 2 wickets each. India ended Day 1 on 204-6 with Nair and Sundar at crease.
