IPL 2022: Gujarat Titans regain top-spot with a last over thriller against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Mumbai: Gujarat Titans (GT) reached the summit of the points table in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Gujarat Titans emerged victorious in the last over against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 5 wickets.

Sunrisers Hyderabad started well with the bat and were 22-0, but in the third over Mohammad Shami rattled the stumps to dismiss skipper Kane Williamson. Shami trapped Rahul tripathi with LBW, after the batter whacked a six and a couple of boundaries. Opener Abhishek Sharma provided two fours to put Sunrisers Hyderabad 53-2 after powerplay.

Aiden Markram and Abhishek Sharma structured a vital partnership as Sunrisers Hyderabad reached at 84-2 during the half-way mark. Abhishek Sharma brought up his half-century as Sunrisers Hyderabad were 140-2 at the end of 15 overs. Alzarri Joseph brought an end to the partnership after Sharma dragged one into the stumps.

Shami claimed his third wicket of the innings when Pooran got caught at long-on. Markram reached his half-century, but Markram was caught by Miller. And Washington Sundar went run-out with a direct hit from Alzarri Joseph. Lockie Ferguson digested 25 runs off 6 deliveries including three sixes from Shashank Singh as Sunrisers Hyderabad went to 195-6 in the first innings.

Gujarat Titans’ openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha responded strongly at the top.  The first three overs gave 31 runs, with 7 boundaries and a over the fence coming from Wriddhiman Saha in the powerplay. The fifty partnership came up from the opening wicket as Gujarat Titans were 59-0 after 6 overs.

Shubman Gill thumped his first six but Umran Malik brought Sunrisers Hyderabad back to the game with two wickets. The speedster rattled the off-stump of Shubman Gill and soon scalped Hardik Pandya, thanks to the catch by Jansen.

David Miller joined Wriddhiman Saha as Wriddhiman Saha crossed the half-century mark in the 11th over. The opener flickered some consecutive fours against Jansen as the required came off to 87 from 48. Umran Malik bowled a 153 KPH yorker to scalp the most-wanted wicket of Wriddhiman Saha.

David Miller and Abhinav Manohar fell into the brilliant bowling of Umran Malik on consecutive deliveries to pick up his maiden over in the tournament. Gujarat Titans came closer with a four and six against Natarajan with the equation reducing to 35 off 12 deliveries. With 22 required off 6, the left-handed batter smacked yet another maximum before Rashid Khan smoked three sixes to get GT over the line on the final ball.
