Tarouba: India beat Uganda by 326 runs in their last Group B match of the ICC U-19 Men’s World Cup 2022 at Tarouba, Trinidad on Saturday, owing to centuries from Raj Bawa and opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi- sealed a quarterfinal spot in the tournament.
Despite missing five players due to COVID-19, including skipper Yash Dhull, India meant business as Bawa and Raghuvanshi smashed Uganda’s assault.
This is the greatest total in this tournament’s history. In the ICC U-19 Men’s Global Cup, India’s greatest total is 425 for 3 against Scotland in 2004, while Australia holds the world record of 480 for 6 against Kenya in 2002.
Being given the opportunity to bat, Raghuvanshi hit 144 off 120 balls, while Bawa stayed undefeated on 162 off 108 balls. The pair put up 206 runs for the third wicket to ensure Uganda lose the game.
Bawa’s innings had 14 fours and eight smashes over the fence, compared to Raghuvanshi’s 22 fours and four sixes. Following Raghuvanshi’s departure, Bawa maintained his aggressive nature and clobbered the Uganda bowlers all over the pitch.
In the meantime, Bawa surpassed senior batter Shikhar Dhawan’s 155 not out against Scotland in 2004 as India’s greatest individual run scorer. The Uganda bowlers had no answers for the Indian assault, thus it was one-way traffic.
India’s 326-run victory is the second-highest in the history of the ICC U-19 Men’s World Cup, and it sets them up for a rematch with Bangladesh in the 2020 final, while Uganda will meet the UAE in the semifinals.
