ISL 2021-21: Hyderabad FC attain top stop with draw against ATK Mohun Bagan

Goa: The joy of the fastest goal in Indian Super League history by David Williams was spoilt by Javier Siverio’s late strike that ensured Hyderabad FC the top spot on the league table. Following the draw of 2-2 at the PJN Stadium ATK Mohun Bagan are now third before Kerala Blasters FC.

Williams just took twelve seconds to find the nets before Bartholomew came up with the equalizer in the 18th minute. Hugo Boumous set up Williams who scored the record goal with a powerful strike kissing Laxmikant’s gloves found the net. However, at the 18th minute, Amrinder committed a blunder when he failed to hold on to a simple catch and the ball fell to Ogbeche. The Nigerian striker made his ninth goal of the campaign, making no mistake as the ball slammed into an open net. Amrinder was again at fault once as he passed the ball to Ogbeche where he should have cleared but luckily the Hyderabad tailsman could not make the most of it.

ATKMB were setback for Carl McHugh, who had to be replaced just on the cusp of halftime after the Irish midfielder suffered a concussion and was taken off the field in an ambulance. Minutes before halftime, Boumous earned his fourth yellow card resulting in which he will miss the next game

Williams, playing ahead of Roy Krishna who started on the bench, took just 12 seconds to score before Bartholomew Ogbeche continued his goalscoring spree with an equalizer in the 18th minute. An own goal from Asish Rai (64th) almost poured cold water on Hyderabad’s hopes of going top of the tree before substitute

The second half witnessed a defensive Hyderabad until Williams dribbled past Akash Mishra for a cross to Joni Kauko who headed in excellently at the far post following a slight deflection from Asish Rai. The goal was later marked as an own goal by Rai. With the lead coming from the second half, the Mariners kept looking for that insurance goal as Liston Colaco came quite close to scoring with a crispyequaliz Williams reverse pass. Spanish mastermind Juan Ferrando added his mastermind with the introduction of Roy Krishna in the 72nd minute replacing Williams who capped off a superb display throughout the match.

Just when it looked like ATKMB could make it through, Siverio flicked a loopy ball from inside into the nets to christen Hyderabad FC’s place at top of the heap.
Hyderabad FC have edged past Mumbai City FC on a goal difference basis. Both teams are on 16 points from nine games. ATK Mohun Bagan jumped to the third spot with 15 points from nine matches.
