Borussia Mönchengladbach surprise FC Bayern Munich with their second defeat in Bundesliga

Mönchengladbach : Borussia Mönchengladbach battled back from two goals down to win the match and stunned the champions FC Bayern Munich 3-2 on Saturday (9 January), with a brace from Jonas Hofmann and one from Florian Neuhaus.

Gladbach pressed high from the beginning of the play time, although it was Bayern who went ahead with Robert Lewandowski’s penalty on 20 minutes.

Six minutes later Leon Goretzka drilled in their second goal, Bayern’s defensive weaknesses this season was thrown into limelight yet again, Hofmann left the defenders behind to complete two quick brace in the 36th and another in the first half stoppage time, equaling the scoreline and leaving the champions dazed.

In the second half, on 49 minutes a sensational shot from Neuhaus completed the hosts’ turnaround, for the rest of the play the Bavarians failed to score an equalizer, showing them their second defeat of the league.

Inspite of the defeat, Bayern are still top on 33 points with RB Leipzig just below them with 31 points, but having played one match less. Gladbach are placed seventh on the table with 24 points.
