Kolkata: Sayan Banerjee who recently moved from East Bengal to their rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giants ahead of Calcutta Football League (CFL) 2026 impressed in debut for Mohun Bagan with 2 Assists and a goal. Mohun Bagan dominated Pathachakra 4-0 at iconic Mohun Bagan Ground, Kolkata to start off CFL 2026 campaign with a win. Apart from Sayan, Kiyan Nassiri, Suhail Ahmad Bhat, Bivan Jyoti Laskar also scored one goal each.
Pathachakra started the match on a good note with Souvik Adhikary countering the Bagan defenders well. But as soon as the Ball fell in Sayan’s feet, he tore apart Pathachakra. Mohun Bagan started dominating Pathachakra but Kiyan and Suhail initially missed chances.
The first one initially came in 21st minute for Mariners as Sayan entered the box with stormy speed from the left. He crossed even after losing his balance. The ball could have crossed the goal line due to the mistake of Pathachak’s goalkeeper. Even if that wasn’t the case, Kiyan finished the rest of the work scoring first goal for Mohun Bagan in this CFL. The first half ended with Bagan leading 1-0.
In 2nd half’s 65th minute, Rohit crossed from a through ball by Raj Basfore. Suhail immediately came from behind and netted the Ball in empty post.
The Mariners again came strong in added time. Sayan displayed absolute masterclass to score his first goal in Green and Maroon colours in the 2nd minute of Added time. Bivan received the Ball from Kiyan in a counter attack. Sayan then pushed his cross to the nets. The Sayan Bivan duo didn’t stop there as Bivan scored goal just 3 minutes later with Sayan’s assist to end the game 4-0 in favour of Mohun Bagan at own home ground. Fans celebrated it with Green and Maroon pyros that brought every Football lovers to 90s and bringing old flavor of CFL.
