IPL 2026: Five times champion Mumbai Indians set to host Kolkata Knight Riders at their den

Mumbai : The IPL (Indian Premier League) started in an electrifying way, with RCB winning the first match, now it’s time for second match of the season.On March 29, Sunday night, the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI)face off against the three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at MI’s home ground, Wankhede Stadium, at 7:30 PM.

Both teams play their first match of this season against each other. KKR faced trouble in their pace bowling attack due to several injuries, but after some replacements like Navdeep Saini replacing Harshit, Saurabh Dubey replacing Akash Deep, and Blessing Muzarabani replacing Mustafizur Rahman, the team looks more balanced. Led by Ajinkya Rahane and with new head coach Abhishek Nayar, KKRhave come out with a new and fresh squad including FinnAllen, Cameron Green, and Tim Seifert. After the retirement of Andre Russell, this is the first match for KKR where fans will definitely miss him. Although fans won’t see Russell as a player he will be present as a power coach for KKR.

On the other hand, MI come out with a high-powered batting lineup featuring T20 World Cup 2026-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav, along with MI skipper Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, supported by Jasprit Bumrah in bowling. Fans are also excited to see Rohit Sharma back in action in the T20 format.

This rivalry has seen 35 matches in the IPL, where MI have won 24 times and KKR have won 11 times. MI have a dominant record against KKR at Wankhede Stadium—in 12 matches, MI have won 10 while KKR have won only 2 (in 2008 and 2024). KKR broke a 16-year gap with their win in 2024.
