Abu Dhabi : Sri Lanka began their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with a confident six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi, reaching the 140-run target with 32 balls to spare. Opting to bowl first, Sri Lanka restricted Bangladesh to 139 for 5 despite a strong sixth-wicket stand.
Bangladesh slipped to 11 for 3 before Jaker Ali (41* off 34) and Shamim Hossain (42* off 34) steadied the innings with a record partnership, helping their side post a respectable total.Wanindu Hasaranga led the bowling effort with 2 for 20, while early strikes from Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera set the tone.
In the chase, Pathum Nissanka anchored the top order with a brisk 50 from 34 balls, striking six fours and a six. The spotlight, however, belonged to Kamil Mishara, who followed his unbeaten knock in the previous match with a composed 46 not out from 32 deliveries, guiding Sri Lanka home and earning Player of the Match honours.
